Anniversary Hike – French Creek Ridge Trail (Trail #3349) to Mount Beachie

For our 6th anniversary, Trish and I decided to take a day trip over near Detroit Lake into the Willamette National Forest and hike a rather seldom used trail called the French Creek Ridge Trail up to Mount Beachie, which overlooks many of the Cascade peaks including Mount Jefferson, Mount Washington, and the Three Sisters, among others.  The trail itself proved to be rather primitive and poorly maintained, but that’s more or less what we were looking for in a day hike, so mission accomplished.  Here are a few of the highlights.

The Map

Just getting started.

A number of spots along the trail were really overgrown.

Wild rhododendrons were everywhere along the trail.

The trail terrain was quite diverse, from thick forest and rooty trails to exposed ridges and rocky trails.

There was a lot of this as well.  At least they didn’t deter Bryn.

Sweaty selfie.

Pretty cool looking beehive inside this log.

Nearing the top… Bryn wants to know what’s taking so long.

And we made it!

And one for the photo album.

And now the four-mile trek back begins.

Bryn provided the entertainment.

Finding all the shady spots.

Rolling in dirt…

Jumping in ponds…

And balancing on logs.

Couldn’t ask for a more beautiful way to celebrate 6 years of marriage.
