“It isn’t the mountain ahead to climb that wears you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe.” – Muhammad Ali

… but what if you have mountains to climb, pebbles in your shoe, unceasing rain saturating your clothes and shoes, and mud in your eyes?  Maybe I’m missing Muhammad Ali’s point, but this was the predicament Andrew and I found ourselves in out on the Sandy Ridge Trail System today; and it was glorious.  Absolutely glorious.

Although we were rather wet and cold after about two runs, we did vow to return sometime in the summer, either making it an extended weekend ride or a long day ride.  Either way, this trail system is awesome and a must-ride for any mountain bike enthusiast.

About to head out.

Heading up the forest road to get to the downhill singletrack. Here I’m failing to curb my enthusiasm.

There’s about 4.5 miles of climbing up a forest road before the singletrack; totally worth it.

And we’re on it!

Andrew’s maiden voyage on the Orbea Loki. It left a spectacular first impression.

We ended up completely soaked, but it was totally worth it.

This pretty much sums up the ride.

And of course, the grand finale.

  1. Nice dude! Sandy is super fun. Did that not too long ago. I can’t imagine doing it in a downpour. I’m not that skilled to handle technical downhills in muck yet.
